I have never been into religious matters. Well, except rejecting every single principle that seemed meaningless in my harmonious table of beliefs. And that is how my grandparents biggest fear came to life - surprise, surprise - I am somewhat of a non-Christian.
Once when I was little my grandma tried to teach me the so called "Ten commandments of God". She was so thrilled and almost exalted every time she pronounced the 10 must-follow-rules of every rightful Christian. And I remember how I always had only one question in mind - Of which god is she talking?...
So, I didn't learn those commandments. Mainly because I believe every man has to create his own moral code, based on the mistakes he/she has made him/herself. However I always reminisce that time I heard them. And now, as I am older and capable of refusing to listen to such pleasing to God speeches, another question evolves. Why in sanities name, didn't that god order us, plain humans, to love ourselves?
Can you even begin to imagine what history-changing impact would such a commandment have had?
Because we as children are not being made emphasis on the great importance of loving and respecting thyself, we can never truly learn to love others.
You may try it sometime - loving yourself. It's great, cheap, comes in every shape and size and immensely cuts the money needed for a shrink.
In the spirit of the new year that is right around the corner from where I stand, I have something to say to everyone who reads my verbiages. Love yourselves! And don't forget to occasionally give love to others. Read more books, spend more time outdoors and of course read my blog! I'm kidding, or not... Be happy, even without reason, and happiness will come to you!
P.S. Go n-éirí an bóthar leat!
Have a good journey!
